The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
by Mark Haddon
This will not be a funny book. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them.
I missed this book in the last post. This was a wonderful read. The story is told by an autistic 15 year old, Christopher. It's start out with the murder of his neighbor's dog. Christopher decides to solve the mystery. In the process we learn about his mixed up family and his odd, sweet world. The book is quirky and funny and sad. I highly recommend it.
This is a wonderful book.
ReplyDeleteWe read it for our church book club on the suggestion of our one non-LDS book club member. Whoops. So much nasty swearing in it! The whole time I was reading it I kept imagining all the sweet little old ladies in the book club reading all those horrible swear words.
(For people who haven't read it, it's by a British author, and I think the Brits use a lot of what we consider really bad swear words a lot more commonly over there.)
I started reading this a while back, and then I lost it! I'm still looking for it. It must have gotten thrown away or something...
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot of books about Jonbenet Ramsey and disasters on Everest. Does that say something about me? I hope not.
